Yes - Yes Welcome to the Hangout btw. I like the metal finger picks and plastic thumb picks, and that seems to be the most common by far among bluegrass pickers. I use two Propik medium double band straight angle metal picks and an ordinary Dunlop plastic thumb pick.
I find the Propiks very comfortable and easy to adjust. There are some with an angled blade as well, but I find the straight blade better. There are also metal thumbpicks with delcrin tips, ala Propik. I use Propik metal double banded fingerpicks and Golden Gate plastic thumbpick with extra lobe at base, seems to hold position better for me. Best thing is to try out a variety until you find what works for you. As a fellow beginner Plastic thumb pick They aren't expensive and you'll find a favorite.
