I think the party metaphor is apt. I find so many folks who played back then who will still tell you it was their favorite expansion to date. Classic had been pretty successful, from the numbers I can find they ended with nearly 6 million subs prior to BC, and the numbers just went up year after year through BC and WotLK until we were at the record smashing 12 million.
As far as the major story beats, it was a bit sad to kill Vashj and Kael. It could have gone a different way. But some of the side stuff made a lasting impression. Murmur is awesome. The Netherwing quests were a great example of using Flight in Gameplay. Playing through the story of that flight was pretty great.
The whole chosen thing by the Naaru was a retcon because they thought it sounded cool at the time. In Vanilla the story was you, what you did in the world. Burning Crusade was a mix of both. There was still a lot of content simply plonked down in the world, but as others had said the focus shifted more toward racing to end-game with a few scraps of narrative hidden behind those end-game encounters.
You are just in time. Compare that to modern leveling where you follow a series of plots and subplots interwoven across multiple zones, culminating in dungeons and raids.
Eh, Wrath, MoP and Legion had good stories, Cata had a decent one except for the gaping hole where the Water raid should have been. WoD was sorta hamstrung from the begining with its iffy premise and was further squished by technical problems that resulted in loads of stuff getting cut until they just gave up. Burning Crusade's plot was a travesty Lore Story Forum. You have a point. Wait, TBC had a story? To my recollection, it went: Holy crap, Hellfire!
Look how big everything is! Fel Reaver! Terrokar is so surreal. Did you join Aldor or Scryer? Do you think we will have Aldor v. Collect your epics and get ready for: Teron Gorefeind: The key to this fight is prayer. Before attempting this boss, everyone in the raid take a 15 minute break to adress their diety of choice. This accomplishment is not to be taken lightly, celebrate your achivements!
Gurtogg Bloodboil: You are in a Guild. In your Guild There are Shamans. In your Shamans' Spellbook There is a Button. This Button is called Brain Heal. In ye olde timey days of yore, healers in MMO's had to engage in the laborious task of selecting the targets they wished to heal. But those days are over thanks to the stunning healing technology available to every shaman in the form of Brain Heal It does the thinking for you!
Employ the Brain Heal and recive epics from this boss. Another fun thing about this encounter is that you get to use amplify magic, I dont know exactly what is fun about that, but I always like having amplify magic, its like a little white hand waving hi to you for the entire encounter.
Perhaps I am losing my mind although these are no longer necessary for raiding thanks to brain heal. Phase 2 of this fight is 1 week long and involves attuning a leatherworker to Black temple so that you can craft leather Shadow Resist Gear Phase 3 of this Fight has been Intentionally Left Blank Phase 4 of this fight requires players to equip their shadow resist gear and turn their spell detail level all the way down Phase 5:?
Cherish these moments folks, you only live once. Comment by Does every member of a raid need to be attuned to gain entry to the temple, or do only a few need to be attuned? Comment by Teldarsterallnes can i see a screenshort of the Azeroth from space Easter Egg? Comment by Tessa44 Can Black Temple be manned with level 80's?
And if so, how many tank, heals would you need? Comment by You didnt include Illidan so I'm pasteing it here: Well congratulations baddies, you are just 1 step away from the end of the pve raiding line. This ones for all the marbles and after its all over, you will have walked away with the privlage of saying "I, have SLAIN Illidan" Your WoW forum trolling potental will be heightened considerably, your epeen will be legthened likewise, and may also experence some increased girth.
Once Illidan starts his speech, you will have your third impression Use your phase 1 attempts to get the sheer joy of wiping to runaway parasitic infection out of your system. If you are melee DPS on this fight you will quickly observe that Illidan jumps really high, but fear not, as hitting the air where his body just was does the same amount of damage as hitting illidan himself. Once your Mages l2frost nova and your tank l2sheild block, its time for: Phase 2: Dinner is Served. Chef Illidan has prepared a special meal for your raid: The Flames of azzinoth, and he encourages you to have a taste, but I would personally advise against it unless you are wearing full FR gear.
As per WoW Raiding rule This phase is also where your warlock tank reveals he fergot to equip his Shadow Res Gear. Phase 3: Like Phase 1 But Different! Phase 3 Is an exciting and dynamic phase that is exactly the same as phase 1 except for something called agonozing flames. In order to not get agonizing flames you have to spread out.
You also have to spread out when do you NOT have to spread out? When other people get demoned you mess with their heads and pretend you arent going to kill it until it gets really close then you execute it, or at least thats what I do. If YOU get demoned you say something to the effect hey I got demoned, and then hope that you are well liked.
Then Hula Hoop guy runs someplace hilariously inconvienent such as directly against the back wall and drops a trap. Now in theory these traps are for illidan, they weaken him and make him take extra damage.
In reality though the traps are actually traps for your raid that mess with your positioning and cause you to wipe to parasites. Most times you just ignore the trap and kill the mans, in which case its time for: Phase 6: The Afterglow Congratulations on your double vanquisher, healing cloak with spellhaste, felhunter on a stick and leather Bracer pattern. You are also gauranteed to get a warglave of azzinoth, unless someone in the raid diserves one. More Important then loot however is that now you have killed illidan you are now offically "Mr.
Don't forget, at the very least, that Zul'Aman hasn't been patched yet, and probably wont be until AFTER Black Temple, considering that its currently the instance with the least information floating around. Its definitely possible that it will be more difficult than BT, and with a stronger boss though that of course would depend on the intended size of the raid Do you think anyone is going to be satisfied without the chance to one day square off against the Lich King in an eventual Northrend expansion.
An expansion, which by the way should also include Anub'Arak and maybe even a return of Kel'thuzad, since its very possible he doesn't die for good at Naxxramas. Aside from Ragnaros, there are still three Elemental Lieutenants remaining, with Neptulon as the most powerful; perfect for a 'Great Sea' expansion which could also give the opportunity to battle the Naga queen Azshara, who according to the WotA trilogy was so powerful that only a demon like Archimonde was able to even startle her.
And don't forget the Burning Legion. Comment by Thottbot If we are talking about a final boss, it can only be Sargeras. Which makes a final expansion underwater more and more plausible. Plus that his spirit still roams the Twisting Nether looking for a body strong enough to hold his essence.
Comment by Thottbot That's definitely a valid point, but I wonder how it could be implemented realistically. I suppose it would have to be a Medivh scenario all over with Sargeras possessing a weaker body, that would allow you to defeat him at a reasonable level Alternatively, if you had to fight Sargeras in his full demonic form, even in a weakened state it would have to be at least a lvl encounter and they'd have to expand the raid size to, like, 60 or so :D.
Comment by Thottbot What exactly is that statement based on? Has Blizzard actually announced that it'll all end with the Lich King? Or do you at least have a sound argument for that? Comment by Thottbot Blizzard isn't going to give up this cash cow by tossing the "end" boss now or anytime soon. So abolish that thought.
Like it was said above we have Northrend and Undermine as possible new locations or money making expansions in Blizzard's eyes. Illidan is immune to all attacks while flying.
Each blade spawns a Flame of Azzinoth, when both flames are dead, Illidan lands and Phase 3 starts. The two off-tanks each pick up one of the flames. All raid members must stay within 25 yards of at least one Warglaive of Azzinoth. At the same time, the raid must spread out to minimize the damage taken from Illidan's Fireballs.
To maximize the effectiveness of [ Chain Heal ] and [ Circle of Healing ] , it's a good idea to set up in several tightly clustered groups. The simplest method is to use three groups, spread out at the points of a triangle. Setups with four or even five groups are possible too - in all cases, the raid must take care to set up outside the Eye Beam paths see below.
A setup with five groups results in a cross pattern - one group in the exact center of the circle, and one N, E, S, W, each 6 yards away from the center group. A four group setup leaves away the center group. Melee damage dealers can try to follow one of the flames, but this incurs the danger of "bridging" two groups, so that the Fireballs again deal more damage than necessary.
For this reason, it's safest to assign the melee damage dealers to one group and keep them at their place, only attacking a Flame when it moves close enough. With experience, raids can work out a technique to allow the melee damage dealers some movement. Each tank must keep his Flame faced away from the raid at all times, while at the same time staying close enough to the Blades of Azzinoth.
This is most easily accomplished by staying in the area between the two circles. Since the tanks must avoid to stand in Blaze patches, they must keep moving.
The result is the following 'kite path': Initially both flames are pulled to the northern or southern end of the circle, and then moved around the border towards the south, one tank along the eastern semicircle, the other along the west. Eye Beam has only four possible paths, each intersects one of the Blades and tangentially touches the inner circle either north or south.
The actual AoE is about 2 yards wider than the graphic. Therefore only tanks and melee damage dealers have to take care.
One player should constantly keep an eye on Illidan and announce whether he's flying over the east or west side so that the tank on that side can move away from the two possible Eye Beam traces. Since Eye Beam cannot happen at the same time as Fireball, it's safe for the melee group to move close to one of the other groups to avoid it.
If players get separated from the Flame by the residual blue fire from Eye Beam, they should wait until they're at full health and then dash through the fire. The Flame tanks need two healers each, the remaining healers heal the raid. About 80 seconds into the phase and every 40 seconds thereafter, Illidan puts a Dark Barrage on a random raid member.
There is nothing to do about it than heal through. Since neither Fireballs nor Eye Beams can happen during a Dark Barrage, all raid healers have to immediately start spam healing the Barrage target.
Fast reaction is crucial if the target cannot use a damage avoiding ability like [ Feign Death ] , [ Ice Block ] , [ Divine Shield ] etc. During Phase 2 no combat or self rez should be used, since upon rezzing players may be susceptible to charge even though being close enough to a Blade. After both Flames are dead, Illidan lands, starting Phase 3. Any combat rezzes should be performed at this point. Each phase switch is an aggro reset, therefore [ Misdirection ] should be used on each switch and DPS should be careful for the first few seconds.
His abilities in Phase 3 are the same as in Phase 1, with the addition of Agonizing Flames. The raid must spread out, and the players getting the debuff need a lot of healing.
